Frank Fazzino enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Husson men’s indoor track & field program in 2018-19 and currently serves as the throws coach and strength & conditioning coach.

RECENTLY:

In his first season as a member of the Eagle track & field coaching staff, Fazzino coached a throws group that produced the program’s first-ever indoor All-New England Honoree and the first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Field Athlete of the Year in Eric Hathaway. The group also earned four All-NAC selections (Hathaway (2), Justin Martin and Jeff Ward) and sent two throwers to the 2018 New England Division III Outdoor Championship Meet in Hathaway and Martin, while Hathaway earned his second consecutive All-New England Honor, becoming the first Eagle in program history to earn back-to-back honors. Additionally, the group also produced one 2017-18 New England Division III Indoor Championship qualifer in Hathaway as well two conference outdoor champions in Hathaway in the hammer throw and Martin in the javelin throw.

PREVIOUSLY:

Prior to coming to Husson, Fazzino spent two seasons as the assistant coach for throws and strength & conditioning at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in Mansfield, Pa.

While at Mansfield, Fazzino had a great deal of success with the throws group, with most of his athletes obtaining lifetime personal bests in their respective events. He coached several conference qualifiers, as well as All-Conference and All-Atlantic Region athletes in the javelin and shot put.  Most notably, Fazzino had two athletes (Kelsey Carlsen and Hunter Watkins) compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the javelin in back to back years; 2016 and 2017. Both athletes also received USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors.

In 2017, Freshman Hunter Watkins had several achievements throughout the season. Hunter ended the 2017 season earning All-Conference (PSAC), All-Atlantic Region, All-East (placing 2nd at the IC4A Championships held at Princeton in a mostly Division I field), and earned 2nd Team All-American honors placing 12th at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Hunter also qualified for the USA Junior National Championships. Both of those athletes also went on to be named Mansfield University Spring Athletes of the Year, with Hunter also being voted as the 2017 PSAC Outdoor Freshman Athlete of the Year.

Prior to arriving at Mansfield, Fazzino was the head track & field coach at Irvington High School in Irvington, N.Y.  from 2010-2014. At Irvington, his teams had several notable achievements, with the girls’ team winning the League Championship six times, and the boys winning it four times between the indoor and outdoor seasons. He also had Westchester County Champions in the long jump, high jump, and 4 x 400. 

Additionally, Fazzino had Section 1 Class B Champions in the high jump, triple jump, and 4 x 400, as well as New York State qualifying athletes in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, 200m, 400m, and 4 x 400m.  At the NY State Championships, Fazzino’s 4 x 400m relay team placed 2nd in D2 and 8th overall in the Federation, a 4th place finisher in the triple jump, and 5th place finishes in the 400m and the high jump.  Finally, he coached national qualifying athletes in the 4 x 400, 4 x 800, high jump and triple jump.

PERSONAL:

Fazzino was a four-year member of the State University of New York at Albany track & field team, earning All-America East honors in the shot put. He also ranks in the Top 10 in school history in the shot put. While at Albany, Fazzino helped the Great Danes win eight America East Conference team titles, and an IC4A Championship title.

Fazzino earned his Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in 2017. Prior to that, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications & Rhetoric, with a minor in Business Administration from State University of New York at Albany in 2009. 

Fazzino currently holds a USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach Advanced Certification (2016), as well as a USTFCCCA Track & Field Technical Coaching Certification (2014)  He also obtained a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as becoming a Weight Room Safety Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach from Bigger, Faster, Stronger in 2013.
