ORONO, Maine – The Husson men's indoor track & field team was invited to compete in the UMaine Invitational. The University of Maine and New Hampshire were at the meet. It was the first time Husson has been invited to the UMaine Invitational. While setting multiple new school records, the Eagles finished in third place with 53 total points.
John Chen and Eric Hathaway each had great showings in the weight throw and shot put. Chen took home third place in the weight throw (12.96 m) and fifth in the shot put (12.16 m), which was a new personal record for Chen. Hathaway finished in fifth place in the weight throw (12.40 m) and fourth in the shot put (13.73 m).
In the pole vault, Dominic Lizotte and Francesco Wright each cleared 3.97 meters, but Lizotte claimed second place while Wright grabbed a third-place finish.
Husson saw a school record fall in the long jump. Jeffrey Ward jumped 6.03 meters and earned a fifth-place finish. It was also Ward's personal record.
Competing in the 60-meter hurdles, Cayd Wartman set a new school record with 8.92 seconds. Claiming a fifth-place finish, Wartman also qualified for the DIII New England Championship.
Another school record fell in the 400-meter dash, when Blake Trueworthy ran an impressive time of 55.70. The third-place finish was also his personal record.
In the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, Robenson Saintard finished fourth (7.29 seconds) and third (23.19 seconds).
Zach Hartman had the most impressive showing off the day. The freshman finished in second-place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.37. It was the fourth school record set on the monumental day.
To wrap up the afternoon, the 4x400-meter relay team claimed a second-place finish (3:56.06).
Members of the men's indoor track and field team will travel to Middlebury College on Friday, February 16 to compete in the Division III New England Championship.
