BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team pick up a 7-0 victory over Green Mountain College on senior day in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field to clinch the number four seed in the upcoming NAC Championship Tournament.
In a pregame ceremony senior's Steven Paquette, Viktor Domberg, Nic Pare, Josh Bean, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Cooper Antone, Dylan Wetmore and Bobby St. Hilaire were all recognized for their contributions to the Husson men's soccer program.
Josh Bean put Husson (8-6-2, 6-2-1 NAC) on the board in the 16th minute of the game with assists from Rod Ghanayem and Josh Bellomo before tallied an unassisted marker in the 34th minute as Husson entered the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
Husson received second half goals from Nick Whitehead from R. Ghanayem in the 60th minute, Miguel Caballero from R. Ghanayem in the 63rd minute, R. Ghanayem from Caballero in the 67th minute, Gage Kennedy in the 69th minute and Andrew Wicklund with his first career goal in the 88th minute from Austin Beaupre.
Husson outshot Green Mountain (0-15-0, 0-9-0 NAC) 52-2 and took the advantage in corner kicks 11-0.
Paquette earned his first career shutout in the victory. Sawyer Levy tallied 21 saves in the net for Green Mountain in the loss.
"It was a nice win today," said head coach Gavin Penny. "We played some good football and created a lot of goal scoring opportunities. We are far from perfect and definitely have much to improve on which we will look to do on the training field this week. We are all very happy for Wicky though, he has had a frustrating year so it was great to see him on the scoresheet."
Husson will host Maine Maritime in a NAC quarterfinal contest on Saturday, October 29. Game time will be announced at a later time. Green Mountain concludes their season.
