Men's Soccer Comes Back to Defeat New England College 2-1

Henniker, N.H. – Husson University men's soccer forward Jimmy Fitzpatrick would net a goal with just five minutes remaining in regulation lifting the Eagles past the New England College Pilgrims 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the Pilgrims fall to 7-8-0 overall and 3-3-0 in NAC play, while the win lifts the Eagles to 7-5-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in NAC play.

New England College would break a 73 minute scoring drought as Siad Haji would receive a feed from teammate Cooper Valinski, make a move and sneak a shot past Husson keeper Cody Gross.  Husson would respond in the 81st minute of play as Miguel Caballero would head in a ball that would bounce off several offensive players, recording his sixth goal of the season.

The game-winner would come at the 84:53 mark as a loose ball in the box would find the foot of Jimmy Fitzpatrick who would slip in a shot in the upper right corner.

NEC's Maxime Danis finished the game with five saves.

Husson's Cody Gross recorded an impressive 10 saves in the win.

"The boys must be absolutely knackered," said head coach Gavin Penny. "That was a really tough game. We worked hard to impose our game on them and played some nice football for large spells of the game. The lads showed tremendous character after conceding a goal and took risks which paid off. We're all very excited to get Castleton in our back yard next Saturday."

New England College will close out their regular season home schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 18 when they host conference opponent Green Mountain College.

Husson will hit the field again on Saturday, Oct 22 when they host conference foe Castleton University.
