Men's Soccer Pushes Past Clippers, 5-2

BANGOR, Maine — Husson University men's soccer program (6-5-2, 4-1-1) defeated University of Maine at Machias (10-4-0, 6-0-0) 5-2 in non-conference action Wednesday night at John P. Boucher Field.

Maine Machias' Ahmed Suja got the Clippers on the board first as he knocked in an unassisted goal 12 minutes into the game. Just eight minutes later, Cooper Antone found Jimmy Fitzpatrick on a great feed to tie it at one a piece. Rod Ghanayem then knocked in a rocket from Josh Bellomo to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead going into the half.

In the second half, Ghanayem scored his second on the night unassisted in the 55th minute to push the Eagle lead 3-1. Five minutes later, Haidar Al-Freihy finds the back of the net on a header to cut the deficit by one.

Ghanayem buries his third goal assisted from Fitzpatrick with five minutes left in the game, while just two minutes later Ghanayem found Miguel Caballero for his first of the night giving the Eagles a 5-2 win over the Clippers.

"Not the best of days for us, the lads were very poor tonight." says head coach Gavin Penny. "We can be so much better, but we didn't turn up tonight. Thankfully we found a way to put five in, but in honesty the score line was probably harsh on them. Hopefully the lads can dig deep and react from this performance away at NEC this weekend."

The Eagles travel to NAC opponent New England College on Saturday, October 15 for a 2:30 p.m. start. The Clippers begin their post-season conference tournament on Saturday with a time TBD.
