BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field on day two of 5th Annual Adidas Challenge Cup
The match went scoreless until Saint Joseph's (Maine) (2-1-2) was awarded a corner kick in the 55th minute. Off the set corner kick play, JoJo Strobino found Brett Mattos for the lone goal of the game.
Blake Mullen made four saves for the Monks.
Cody Gross made 12 saves in the loss.
The Monks outshot the Eagles, 23-13.
"It was another tough loss for us today," said Husson head coach Gavin Penny. "Given the direction we're headed, it was somewhat positive and encouraging. But we got to get back to training this week and see how we can piece the puzzle and get ready for the next game."
Gross and Josh Bean were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Saint Joseph's Dalton Gaumer (MVP), JoJo Strobino, Rory Twomey and Brett Mattos, Southern Maine's Kyle Curley, Christopher Pepin and Charlie Mull, and Castleton's Derek Blouin, Aaron Parker and Dallas Desroches.
Husson opens up North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 17th when they host Colby-Sawyer for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. The Monks host Lyndon State on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
