Men's Basketball Puts On Total Team Offensive Effort In 84-50 Win Over Johnson

BANGOR, MAINE- The Husson University men's basketball team (18-5, 14-2 NAC) rolled past the Johnson Badgers (7-14, 4-11 NAC) 84-50 Saturday afternoon in Newman Gymnasium. The Eagles put on an impressive team offensive effort in the win.

THE STORY

Husson's offense started off hot and remained that way throughout the first half of play.  Junior guard Kyanti Blyden proved to be a force off the bench scoring 10 points in the half including a deep three. The Eagles defense couldn't be solved by the Badgers as Husson gathered 4 steals and 3 blocked shots.

Husson increased their lead to 23 points off a Justin Martin steal and Bruce St. Peter layup with less than 5 minutes to go before the half. Johnson grabbed 6 offensive rebounds in one possession but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity as Husson corralled the next rebound. Leading 45-22 heading into the locker room for halftime, the Eagles shot 54.8% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line.

The Eagles came out of the locker room hot making three 3 pointers within the first four minutes. Husson's offense continued to dominate leading by 36 points with ten minutes left to play. Senior guard Mitch Worcester tallied his first points of the game coming off a screen and draining a deep three.

With five minutes left in the game, the Eagles put together an impressive play in transition. Mitch Worcester brought the ball up the court, dished it off to Cole Thomas who gave a quick pass to Bruce St. Peter under the hoop for an easy bucket. Worcester then followed up with a three-point attempt on the next possession and was fouled, making all three free throws. Freshman Jarrod Chase sunk a three of his own in transition on the next possession.  The Eagles didn't look back as they cruised through the final minutes sealing the win with 10 different players scoring for Husson.
