BANGOR, Maine – The Husson Eagles men's basketball team won convincingly 70-45 over the Green Mountain Eagles Friday night in front of an enthusiastic Newman Gymnasium crowd. Husson (16-6, 13-2) improved their record to 23-6 all-time versus Green Mountain (10-11, 7-8).
Junior guard Diante Warner led the way for Green Mountain with ten points shooting 4-of-9 from the field. Senior forward Javier Lugris hauled in seven boards and dished out a team high four assists.
Martin got the Eagles rolling early with a block and quick lay-up. Both teams played well defensively keeping the score close within the first five minutes. Husson led 7-4 when the pace picked up once junior guard Mitch Worcester checked in, shooting the three-ball very well. He shot three-for-three from the field as the Eagles pushed their lead to as many as 23.
The second half started much of the way the first half ended with the Eagles leading by as many as 24. Green Mountain was able to do a much better job rebounding, allowing them to trim the lead to 18 with six minutes to go. They could get no closer and Husson closed out the game on a 12-3 run.
As a team, Husson finished the game shooting 38.7% on 29-for-75 from the field. The Eagles scored 28 points on 24 Green Mountain turnovers. They had 17 assists and 44 rebounds, 29 were defensive.
Green Mountain shot 29.6% from the floor, on 16-for-54 shooting. The rebounding was close, as Green Mountain finished with 39. They finished with eight team assists.
The Husson Eagles look to stretch their win streak to four as the Castleton University Spartans come to Newman Gymnasium, Saturday February 11 at 1 p.m.
