Second Half Domination Leads to Men's Basketball 89-69 Victory at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson Eagles registered their first victory of over twenty points since the 1993-94 season against Colby on Tuesday night. Husson (14-6) commanded the floor in the second half as they defeated Colby (10-11) on the road 89-69.

Tipping off the first half, Husson was unstoppable from behind the arc, scoring nearly all of their baskets with 3-pointers as they led 19-16 in the first twelve minutes of the game. Eli Itkin netted two, while Raheem Anderson, Jake Black, and Alonzo McCain shared one apiece.

The first twenty minutes showed an evenly matched defensive game for both teams. Each team also gathered twenty rebounds with fifteen defensive boards for Husson and seventeen for Colby. Justin Martin commanded the court under the basket for the Eagles snatching up five rebounds while the Mule's - Ethan Schlager - grabbed six rebounds. On the scoreboard, Anderson was the leading scorer with thirteen points while teammate, Itkin, contributed eight points. Over on the other side of the court, the Mules were led by Sam Jefferson with eight points and Patrick Stewart with seven. During the first half, the two teams remained within four points of each other, swapping the lead eleven times.

Going into the second half, Husson took immediate control of the court within the first three minutes as the Eagles began extending their lead into the double digits with Martin draining two 3-pointers in less than 40 seconds.  

It was a night of 3-pointers, as Husson accumulated sixteen total on the night with both Martin and Itkin draining four. Martin was also the only player to post a double-double in the game with nineteen points and ten rebounds. As a team, the Eagles had 42 points from the bench and only six turnovers to Colby's sixteen. It was a high-scoring night for four Eagle athletes, led by Anderson netting 21 points plus sneaking away with four steals, Mitch Worcester added sixteen making 7-of-8 shots from the charity line, closely followed by Itkin with fifteen points in only eighteen minutes. Husson outscored Colby 53-36 in the final half.

For the Mules, Alex Dorion netted twelve points with Jefferson and Stewart tied at eleven points. Sean Gilmore helped out his team defensively, gathering up six rebounds and stopping multiple shots with four blocks.

The men will travel back to Husson to host Green Mountain at 5:30pm on Friday, February 10th.
