Raheem Anderson Eclipses 1,500 Points as Men's Basketball Defeats Green Mountain 80-72

 

POULTNEY, VT- The Husson University men's basketball team (10-5, 8-2) defeated Green Mountain State (8-7, 5-5) 80-72, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of the Eagle Dome.

Husson's Raheem Anderson led all scorers with 27 points, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Anderson also scored his 1,500th career point. He is the third player to surpass the milestone during Coach Warren Caruso's tenure. Anderson now sits 12th all-time on Husson University's career points list.

Husson put together a 5-0 lead to open the game and never looked back. They saw their lead to grow to as large as twelve points (38-26). Three pointers reigned supreme for both teams. Jake Black, Justin Smith, Raheem Anderson, and Eli Itkin all contributed threes for the visiting Eagles, while Patrick Rittmon, Javier Lugris, and and Thomas Brown each hit a three pointer for the hometown Eagles.

Green Mountain tried to trade threes with Husson throughout the first half but could not get closer than five points. The Husson Eagles took a 40-30 lead into the second half.

The visiting Eagles saw their lead grow to as much as sixteen (54-38) after the start of the second half. Green Mountain trimmed the lead back to ten (56-56) at 10:29 with a 6-0 run. Husson relied on the three ball and free throws to keep the hometown Eagles at arm's length.

Green Mountain's Darius Wynn tried to mount one last comeback by hitting a three pointer with 00:33 left in the game. It cut Husson's lead to 76-70, but it was as close as Green Mountain would come to tying the game.

Husson's Jake Black did all of his damage from behind the three point line with four three pointers made for twelve points, while pulling down two rebounds and dishing out two assists. Bruce St. Peter added six points, five rebounds (four offensive), and a block, and Justin Smith chipped in nine points and two points for the visiting Eagles.

Patrick Rittmon paced Green Mountain with fourteen points, while dishing out four assists and grabbed two rebounds. Kenneth Parker came off the bench to score thirteen points, block three shots, and pulled down three rebounds, while Thomas Brown contributed with ten points in the losing effort.

 

The Husson Eagles travel to Colby College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm tip.
