BANGOR, Maine – The Husson women's field hockey team (2-10, 1-2 NAC) put up a tough fight on senior day, but couldn't capitalize as the Thomas College Terriers (11-7, 4-0 NAC) defeated the Eagles, 2-0, in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on homecoming night at Winkin Sports Complex. Three seniors were recognized prior to the match, Sadie Royer, Allison Leighton, and Arika Brochu.
The Terriers took an early lead with a goal by Tiffany Weeks in the 13th minutes of the game, as the ball found its way through the flurry in front of the net and snuck in. Linsdey Gregoire earned the assist as she opened up play sending a penalty corner into dangerous territory with the ball aimed right at Weeks to capitalize on.
Husson defended nine more penalty corners throughout the 1st half, keeping the ball out of the net until Katie Taylor rocked a shot at Andrea Shaggy in between the posts and the momentum was too much as Thomas extended their lead to 2-0 with 12 minutes left to play. Weeks earned another point on the night dishing out the pass to Taylor for the final goal of the match.
BETWEEN THE POSTS:
Throughout 70 minutes in net, Shaggy stopped eight shots while her counterpart, MacKenzie Oberholzer turned away three shots.
The Terriers held a huge scoring opportunity in the first half grabbing ten penalty corners to the Eagle's single penalty corner. By the end of the night, Thomas outshot Husson, 14-6.
The Eagles have one day to recover from the homecoming match before welcoming the University of Southern Maine Huskies to Winkin Sports Complex for a 6:00 p.m. game on Monday, October 22nd for their final home event of the regular season.
