Sabrina Smith Named Seventh Head Field Hockey Coach in Program History

BANGOR, Maine - Husson University Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi is pleased to announce the appointment of alumnus and two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American Sabrina Smith '14, as its seventh head field hockey coach in program history.

"I'm excited for this next chapter in my coaching career," said Vaillancourt. "It's an honor to be leading the Husson field hockey program and continuing the student athlete success."

"We are thrilled to have Sabrina Smith take over the reigns of our field hockey program," said Pergolizzi. "As a Husson alumnus we are very aware of her many accomplishments and accolades.  Everyone we talked to who has worked with Sabrina in a professional capacity gave her glowing marks.  We believe strongly that Sabrina is destined to do great things as the leader of the Husson field hockey program!"

Smith arrived at Husson after spending two seasons (2015-16) as the head varsity field hockey coach at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine, where she compiled an overall record of 18-10, while leading the Warriors to two postseason appearances. Prior to being named head coach at Nokomis, Vaillancourt served as an assistant varsity and head JV field hockey coach at Old Town High School in 2014.

She has coached club field hockey for the past four years serving as a head coach for the Black Bear Elite Field Hockey, LLC in Orono, Maine.

Smith was a four-year letterwinner as forward for the Eagles from 2010-13, and was one of the greatest players to wear a Husson uniform in program history.

The four-time All-North Atlantic Conference (NAC) selection helped guide Husson to a 43-31 overall record, the best four-year mark in program history, with back-to-back NAC Championships and NCAA Championship tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011, and the program's first NAC Regular Season title and a runner-up finish in 2012.

In 73 games career played, Smith scored 68 goals, tallied 18 assists for 154 points off 342 shots with 15 game-winning goals.

She is a three-time NFHCA All-New England Region selection, a four-time NAC All-Tournament pick, and was named the NAC Rookie of the Year in 2010.

Smith is also the first Eagle in program history to be named All-American (2012, 2013) and to earn All-New England honors from NFHCA and is one of two players in program history to achieve All-Conference honors all four years.

Husson University field hockey will open up their 20th season on September 2nd with a 2:00 p.m. game at Wellesley College.
