BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University field hockey team defeated Colby-Sawyer College 5-3 in a North Atlantic Conference East Semifinal match on Wednesday, October 26 at the John W. Winkin Sports Complex.
Husson (8-6, 4-1) got on the board first when Lauren Russell took it to the corner and blasted it past Colby-Sawyer (11-6, 3-2) goalkeeper Xena Ras. Taylor Shaw would then have two goals of her own to give the Eagles the 3-0 lead at the halftime break.
The Chargers opened up the scoring in the second half when Sierra Schuster knocked a goal past goalkeeper Kaitlin Dolloff in the 38th minute, pulling them within two. Just four minutes later, Russell would score her second of the game with an assist from Erika Brochu for the 4-1 lead.
Colby-Sawyer would keep their offense pushing as Jordan Teixeria scored to make it a close 4-2 match. In the 49th minute Sadie Royer found the back of the goal on a pass from Brochu to take the 5-2 lead. Alie Jones scored her first for the Chargers with five minutes to play, but could not come away with the win as the Eagles move on to the Championship with the 5-3 victory.
For the Eagles, Russell and Shaw lead the team with two goals a piece, while Royer had one off of her two shots on goal. Brochu had three shots, two of which were on goal, and Mikayla Toth contributed two shots as well. For the Chargers Jones had five shots and one goal, while Sierra Schuster and Teixeria netted one goal each. Ras had eight saves and five goals against, while Anne-Marie Provencal was credited with the win for Husson with no goals against and one save.
The Eagles move on to the Championship of the NAC East Tournament against No. 1 seeded UMaine-Farmington on Saturday, October 29.
