Ben Walls enters his second season as the Husson baseball pitching coach in 2019.
Prior to joining the Eagle coaching staff, Walls was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher for the Eagles from 2013-17. The two-time All-Conference selection made 37 appearances with 27 starts, and went 19-6 record with two saves, a 2.47 ERA - the lowest career ERA of any pitcher in program history with a minimum of 90 innings in that last 40 years - a 1.22 WHIP, a 1.74 BB/9, a 4.89 SO/9 and a 2.82 strikeout to walk ratio. In 197 innings, he struck out 107 batters with only issuing 38 walks.
Walls is the program’s all-time career leader in walks per nine ininngs pitched and ranks tied for eighth in wins, 16th in ERA, tied for 18th in strikeouts, tied for 16th in saves, tied for 15th in appearances, tied for 13th in games started, tenth in innings pitched, tied for 13th in complete games (11), tied for tenth in shutouts (2), and tied for 11th in WHIP.
As a senior, Walls recorded his best season in a Husson uniform by posting a 1.77 ERA with a 6-2 record and a save in ten appearances, including nine starts in his final season on the mound. The senior captain fanned 43 batters while allowing 57 hits – including just 12 for extra-bases - and only nine walks in 66.0 innings and held opponents to a collective .232 (57-246) batting average with a 1.23 BB/9. He led the conference in completed games (7), ranked second in innings pitched, third in WHIP, tied for third in wins and games started, fourth in the conference in ERA, eighth in strikeouts, and tenth in K/9 (5.86).
Following the season, Walls was named to Second Team All-NAC squad for the second straight season, while earning First Team All-New England honors from D3Baseball.com. Walls also became the first player in program history to be named to the first team and the first pitcher to recieve this honor as well.
Off the diamond, Walls was named Husson University’s nominee for the 2017 NAC Man of the Year and the program's 2017 Eagle Award winner.
The senior captain helped guide Husson to a 97-71 overall record with two NAC Runner-Up finishes in 2014 and 2016.
Walls earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Sport Management from Husson in 2017 and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration dergree from Husson.
A native of Bar Harbor, Maine, Walls attended Mount Desert Island High School.
