DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore catcher Sam Huston has been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII New England All-Star Team.
Huston is the second Eagle player in program history to be selected to the team and the first since Shawn Smith in 2013.
Sam Huston, a 2017 First Team All-NAC Choice and a Third Team D3baseball All-New England region selection, collects his first All-ECAC New England award after hitting .323 (42-130) with 23 runs, 13 doubles, three homers, 35 RBI, 26 walks, and three stolen bases as a second-year starter behind the dish. The sophomore receiver made three errors in 170 chances with a .982 fielding percentage in 31 games as a catcher and threw out 75.8% (17-25) of would-be base stealers this spring. Huston led the conference in doubles, ranked second in on-base percentage (.451), third in walks, fourth in games played (42) and total bases (64), tied for fourth in RBI, tied for sixth in homer runs, seventh in slugging percentage (.492), tenth in batting average, and tied for 11th in hits.
In 82 career contests, Huston is hitting .316 (77-244) with 41 runs, 24 doubles, three homers, four stolen bases, and 50 RBI.
Husson posted a 22-20 overall record - their tenth 20 win season in the past 13 seasons since the Eagles joined the NCAA in 2005, and the 21st overall and the eighth time under Jason Harvey - with a 13-11 mark in NAC play this spring en route to earning the fourth seed in the conference tournament. The Eagles opened tourney play with a 3-2 win over top seeded Castleton - ending a 11 game losing streak - to advance to the final winners' bracket game, where the Green and Gold suffered a 8-5 setback in extra innings at the hands of #2 New England College, falling into the losers' bracket in the process. Unfortunately the Eagles saw their season come to an abrupt end with an elimination game loss at the hands of #1 Castleton, 4-3.
