BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University baseball team (21-16, 13-9 NAC) dropped both games of their home doubleheader with Castleton (28-7, 19-3 NAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles lost the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 6-1 and lost the second 2-0.

Game 1: Husson 1, Castleton 6

Castleton found themselves on the scoreboard first in Game #1. With two hits coming from the bottom of their line-up, Jonathan Lindau and Josh Rylant were on base. Lindau reached third on Rylant's base hit. Rylant would steal second on the next pitch. Lindau was thrown out at home on a Deagan Poland fielder's choice. Rylant would score on a self-induced rundown by Poland and the Castleton coaching staff. Castleton led 1-0 after the 3rd inning.

In the top of the 5th, Castleton would score three runs in part to two errors committed by the Husson shortstop. Matt Jackson and Jonathan Lindau were the two benefactors of the miscues. Jackson came around to score on the Lindau error. Rylant singled to center. After the error, he would then steal second. Dillon Benham did his job and took advantage of the free base runners. He lined a ball back up the middle scoring both Rylant and Lindau. The Spartans held a 4-0 advantage after the top of the 5th.

Cam Archer led off the bottom of the 6th with a double into the right-center field gap. Logan Rogerson followed up with a single down the right field line. Archer only advanced to third on the single. With one out, Ryan Rebar singled through the right side scoring Archer from third. It was the only run scored in the frame. Husson trailed 4-1 after the 6th.

Castleton would add two more runs in the top 7th on a Poland single. Lindau and Rylant were credited with the two runs. The visiting Spartans would hold onto the 6-1 led to win the first game of the doubleheader.

Ben Walls (5-2) went 7.0 innings, while allowing six runs (three earned) and striking out seven. Ryan Rebar had the lone Eagle RBI. Along with Rebar, Cam Archer, Logan Rogerson, Mike Wong, and Conor Maguire all, respectively, had one single.

Michael LaBeau (5-2) went 7.0 innings, allowing one run, and striking out nine. Dillon Benham led the Spartan offense with four RBI. Josh Rylant, along with Benham, had three hits. Jonathan Lindau chipped in with two runs scored in the win.

Game 2: Husson 0, Castleton 2

It was a scoreless tie until the bottom of the 5th inning. Alex Chapman lead off the inning with a double to deep left field. He would advance to third on a throwing error by the Castleton pitcher. Matt Graciano laid down a perfect suicide squeeze with Chapman charging from third. The Eagles would hold a 1-0 lead after the 5th.

Castleton would come back and tie the game in the top of the next inning. With two outs, Zach Bahan drew a walk. He was pinch run for by Mitchell Caron. Davis Mikell wasted little time and crushed a double into the gap. Caron scored and tied the game at 1-1.

The Spartans would take the lead in the top of the 7th on a Josh Rylant RBI single. Matt Jackson had reached on a single to the left side of the infield. He scored on the single to center. The 2-1 score would stand for Castleton.

Jesse Colford (2-1) went 6.1 innings, allowing two runs, and striking out 7. Matt Graciano had the Eagle RBI, while Alex Chapman had two hits in the loss.

Luke Salerno (6-0) went 7.0 innings, while allowing one run and striking out nine. Josh Rylant and Davis Mikell had the two RBI in the Game 2 win. Jonathan Lindau and Matt Jackson each had a hit a piece.
