WATERVILLE, Maine — The Husson University women's cross country team placed five runners inside the top 10 to capture the team championship at the Thomas College Invitational on Saturday.
The Eagles finished the 4K race with 28 points, easily outdistancing runner-up University of Maine Club Track & Field, which finished with 60 points. Central Maine Community College placed third with 90 points, followed by Maine Maritime Academy with 105, York County Community College with 108 and the University of Maine at Presque Isle with 112.
Freshman Elise Ouellette paced Husson with a runner-up finish, completing the 4K course in 16:03.7. Ouellette finished just one second behind individual champion Addie Paul of UMPI, who crossed the finish line in 16:02.7.
Sophomore Lucinda Carroll gave the Eagles a second top-five finisher, placing fifth overall with a time of 16:41.0.
Freshmen Jadyn Bell and Kelsey Paradee finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh, respectively. Bell crossed the finish line in 16:57.3, while Paradee followed in 17:02.8.
Junior Molly Dearborn rounded out Husson's five scoring runners with a ninth-place finish, clocking a time of 17:13.0. The Eagles' five scoring runners all finished inside the top nine overall and occupied scoring positions of second, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth.
Sophomore Nina Huber added an 11th-place performance in 17:20.1, while freshman Katelyn Gibbs finished 16th with a time of 18:26.1.
Senior Abby Hunt crossed the finish line in 18:50.0 to place 19th overall, while sophomore Christina DeGiso completed Husson's lineup with a 24th-place finish in 19:36.6.
Husson's five scoring runners combined for a total time of 1:23:57 and an average time of 16:47, giving the Eagles a 32-point victory in the six-team field.
The Eagles are back on the course on Oct. 17 for the Coach Dann Runnin' Monks Classic, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
