PORTLAND, Maine — The Husson University men's golf team captured the USM Husky Classic title on Sunday, firing a team score of 290 to win the 10-team event at Riverside Golf Course.
The Eagles' A team finished seven strokes ahead of the University of Southern Maine's B team, which carded a 297, while the host Huskies' A team finished third with a 298.
Senior Ty Dickson led the way for Husson, shooting a 3-under-par round to finish tied for first individually with Southern Maine's Will Farschon. The duo finished two strokes ahead of Southern Maine's Quinn Dillon, who placed third at 1-under.
Senior Juan Carlos Hernandez also turned in a top-five performance for the Eagles, finishing tied for fourth after shooting even par.
Sophomore Michael Bruce gave Husson three golfers inside the top seven, carding a 2-over round to finish tied for seventh. Senior Jace Cook and sophomore Chase Farnsworth each finished at 3-over and tied for ninth, giving the Eagles five golfers inside the top 10.
Husson's A team finished with a 290, seven shots better than Southern Maine B and eight ahead of Southern Maine A. Colby College placed fourth with a 306, while Keene State College and Vermont State University Castleton tied for fifth at 316.
The University of Maine-Farmington finished seventh with a 332, followed by the University of Maine-Presque Isle in eighth at 333 and Maine Maritime Academy in ninth at 341.
Husson's B team finished 10th with a score of 351.
Sophomore Anderson Clifford paced the B team with a 13-over round to finish tied for 37th. Sophomore Jacob Towne followed at 16-over in a tie for 44th, while senior Ellis Spaulding and freshman Reese Smith both finished tied for 46th at 17-over. Junior Will Routhier rounded out Husson's lineup at 20-over, finishing 52nd.
The Eagles will now turn their attention to the North Atlantic Conference championship tournament, which begins on Friday at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
