PORTLAND, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference semifinal action on Saturday afternoon at Apex Racket and Fitness, improving to 8-2 on the season.
The Eagles claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 before adding three singles wins to secure the victory over the Terriers (7-6).
In doubles competition, senior Kayla Lockhart and junior Anah Albert got Husson off to a strong start at the No. 1 position, defeating Lily Daigle and Taylor Juhase 6-4.
Thomas answered at No. 2 doubles, where Sarah Mack and Gigi Bhagat earned a 6-3 victory over sophomores Katelyn Cotter and Sadie May, leaving the doubles point to be decided at the third position.
The Eagles responded with freshmen Julia Spencer and Lydia Jordan securing a 6-4 victory over Kayla Bailey and Tracy Lopez at No. 3 doubles, giving Husson the opening point of the match.
In singles action, Husson continued its strong performance, earning victories at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions.
Cotter picked up a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Daigle 6-4, 6-3, while May followed with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win over Mack at the fourth position.
Spencer also delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 singles, surrendering just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Bailey.
Thomas earned its lone point of the afternoon at No. 2 singles, where Bhagat defeated Albert 6-3, 7-5.
The matches at No. 1 and No. 5 singles went unfinished following Husson's clinching victory.
The Eagles will look to capture the NAC championship on Sunday when they take on top-seeded Simmons University at 1 p.m.
